What are the features of ExxonMobil Fuel Cards?
ExxonMobil is the world’s largest publically traded oil and gas conglomerate. Currently, they have two options for trucking fuel cards. These cards are both accepted at all ExxonMobil locations, with security and reporting features that are exclusive to cardholders.
First, let’s look at their Business Fleet Card. In addition to their standard savings of 6 cents per gallon, there is a promotional period of six billing periods with 10 cents per gallon savings. These savings only apply when using the card at Exxon and Mobil locations. There are no setup or monthly fees for the card. They claim their online management tools allow access to critical information, including payment history, driver activity, and available credit.
On the other hand, the ExxonMobil Fleet National card is accepted at 90% of fueling locations in the continental United States, allowing for greater flexibility. Still, the fuel discounts, which are identical to the Business Fleet card, only apply at ExxonMobil locations. They also offer additional management tools that allow greater control and monitoring of fleet information.
What are the major drawbacks of the ExxonMobil Fuel Cards?
One of the major drawbacks to the ExxonMobil Fuel Cards is that they are only accepted at their locations (in the case of the Business Fleet card) or that the fuel savings only apply at their locations (in the case of the Fleet National card). This may not be a problem on the East Coast, where they have a high density of coverage. But in other locations, such as Iowa, Kansas, or Nevada, they have very few stations.
Furthermore, the fact they only have two card options means they lack the tailored features of many other card companies that have more products to offer.
What do the reviews have to say about ExxonMobil?
Consumer Affairs currently has ExxonMobil with only one star. Even when figuring in the fact that unhappy customers are more motivated to write reviews than happy ones, this is a startlingly low number. Among the complaints, many cited problems with the app, and expected savings not being credited to their account.
With regards to their fuel cards specifically, WalletHub has them rated at 3.8 out of five stars. One person wrote, “The call center representative was rude and made major account changes without confirmation.” Another said their card was closed because of inactivity, and that “I found out when I tried to use the card and it was denied.”
